Here and Home is a project launched by Jessica Forbes, rooted in storytelling, heritage, and craftsmanship. It bridges the experiences of being in the diaspora and the pull toward home - whether that is Ghana, Africa, or a broader cultural connection. It will serve as a platform for contemporary African and diasporic voices through literature, textiles, and art.

Last year, I made the decision to travel to Ghana alone, spending ten weeks immersing myself in the art of batik, learning from and connecting with artisans who have preserved this craft for generations. It was an unapologetic journey—one of creativity, history, and personal discovery.

For me, home has always been where culture is felt most deeply, and as someone in the diaspora, that connection first took root in the kitchen. The scents, the rituals, the textiles draped over tables and wrapped around waists—this was where I began to understand Ghana in my own way.

Here and Home will soon extend beyond words, bringing together textiles, homeware, and design inspired by the traditions, stories, and craftsmanship of Africa. A way to bring pieces of home—however you define it—into your everyday.
